Everything
happened in 1640 in Lisbon, when Portugal became independent of Spain (Treaty
of Cordesillas). In 1642 the King died and the throne passed to the queen
Adelina II and her son, the prince Enrique Cortés.
The Castelo family
wanted the maximum power so they needed to marry their daughter Catarina with
the prince and kill the queen. The queen accepted the wedding.
Then the queen
Adelina II introduced her best friend, the abbess Noemia, to Catarina. The
queen wanted Noemi to take care of Castelos.
One day, the abbess
and Catarina went to buy to the market. When they were buying, a young
merchant, Danilo da Silva, stole the engagement ring of Catarina. Fortunately,
the chief magistrate, Joao Rosiña, saw it and put Danilo into jail.
The Castelo family
spoke with the young merchant father, André da Silva, and they agreed that they
would bribe the jailer and take his son put out of the jail in Exchange for the
merchants to kill the queen.
The da Silva
merchants knew a sorcerer, Helder Feiticiana, who made a poison to kill the
queen.
The Castelos
organized a party in their house because the next day the wedding was going to
be celebrated.
The young merchant
went to the party, he was the jester of the queen, he would kill Adelina II but
the abbess Noemia heard the Castelo plan and she told the queen.
Adelina II angrily
cancelled the wedding and the Castelo family was imprisoned. But as Portugal
was at war, they could escape and they went to America, to a Brazil village
Upon-Açu where they could start a new life.
In 1668 Portugal
became independent thanks to the Treaty of Lisbon.
